CALL TO ORDER at 6:40pm
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Suki Willison, Gib Ramirez, Rod Peterson, Paul Schwartz, Gerry Schmanke, Chardy Hern, Jeff Martin, Bill Beasley and Karen Osborn
BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Marni Schleuning and Brian Gabel
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Bill moved that the minutes of May 18th be approved, Chardy second; approved.
SECRETARY/TREASURER’S REPORT: Karen mailed Event Liability insurance check and insurance papers, and mailed the Prairie Band “90 Day Report”. She had handout of expenses and income for past month. Topeka Blues Society membership is at 99 listings. Bill moved that Secretary/Treasurer’s report be approved, Paul second; approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Summertime Blues
May 20th was cold, but considering the weather, we had a good turnout. We sold several memberships, some merchandise and a Guitar Giveaway ticket. Next S.B. is this Wednesday with The 800’s and Washburn Rural youth group. Tent, table & guitar will be there.
Suki said Javier Mendoza needs a P.A. in July – Rod offered his, but will need Jim to set up.
Topeka Gives
The Board agreed our first Topeka Gives was a great way to introduce ourselves to a new audience, and network with other non-profits. Suki and others will go to Fairlawn Plaza this Thursday to receive our check.
SOKBF
Fundraising/sponsorships: There are several usual donors who donated at Topeka Gives. After we receive those donations, Karen will contact others we haven’t heard from.
Food/Beverage: Paul will work with Luan/Mike getting food setup for inside Reynolds Lodge and the Vendor Tent. He suggested several trustworthy persons work the register at the tent. Bill will check with Sutherland Lumber to see if they will donate water or buy for us at discounted rate. Paul said potato chips are the overall favorite chip, and suggested we just offer potato chips with our sandwich combo.
Vendors: We have 14 vendors, 4 food and 10 arts & crafts. Dept. of Revenue sent paperwork to be distributed to our vendors. Karen will email vendor list to KDOR by the 20th, as required.
Promotion & Media: Suki and Rod are promoting on all the usual outlets.
Volunteers: Chardy sent emails to possible volunteers, and is getting volunteers lined for the day. Luan and Mike will get their own volunteers for the tents, with assitance from Paul/Barb. Chardy would like a list of band members and press for our security tent volunteers.
Band/Staging: Gerry said Jim has contract for stage. Suki said to advise him they will be responsible for their own meals Friday night during setup. Suki will take care of towels, etc.
Security: Chardy will handle security at the front gate.
Merchandise: Bill and Patti will display shirts with two clotheslines at the back of the tent, with costs of shirts prominently displayed.
Vendors: Dana and Marni will be at the Vendor Information tent and monitor/coordinate the vendors.
Survey: Karen had a copy of a survey to use, based on the one Paul/Barb submitted. All surveys will be submitted for a drawing for festival shirt/poster.
Miscellaneous: Karen will get sponsor list to Suki for announcments – they will be on a CD to play during the breaks. Should also mention membership drive, and guitar giveaway.
Mulvane Art Show, June 6 & 7
Mulvane Art Show was a success, with guitar donations, merchandise sold, memberships, and a Blues Festival donation. We hope to be involved again next year.
NEW BUSINESS
Blues Challenge
We have four bands, one duo and one youth submitted for challenge. Gerry has been promoting and contacting bands, and expects a few more challengers. Suki said The 44’s will be here to judge and play.
Drum Kit
Suki announced Rick Bruning donated a drum kit for Uncle Bo’s/TBS use.
