MEETING AGENDA
CALL TO ORDER at 6:40pm
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Suki Willison, Brian Gabel, Paul Schwartz, Gerry Schmanke, Chardy Hern, Jeff Martin, Bill Beasley and Karen Osborn
BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Marni Schleuning, Gib Ramirez and Rod Peterson
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Bill moved that the minutes of April 27th be approved, Brian second; approved.
SECRETARY/TREASURER’S REPORT: Karen had handout of expenses and income for past month. Bill moved that Secretary/Treasurer’s report be approved, Paul second; approved.
Karen asked if Board would approve expense limit for Secretary/Treasurer costs. After some discussion, Bill moved that Karen be allowed to spend up to $75 per year on TBS expenses, Paul second; approved unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
SOKBF
Vendors: Suki said we have five vendors so far. Expecting many more.
Budget/Fundraising: Karen had spreadsheet showing donations and budget. Several of our usual donors are waiting for the Topeka Gives event – payout for this is end of June. Brochures should be printed and ready in a few days. Posters will be ready, too.
Survey: Paul/Barb submitted a sample of a survey they’d been given at a blues festival. Paul suggested TBS use the same survey for our Blues Festival. After discussion, Bill moved that survey be used at our festival, Chardy second; approved unanimously.
Guitar Giveaway
Guitar “Sally Mae” is nearly finished, should be ready for May 20th Summertime Blues. Karen has promoted by membership email, on website and Facebook.
Topeka Gives, June 2, 7am-6pm @ Fairlawn Plaza
Karen will go to registration on June 1st. Karen is promoting, and created an “event” on Facebook.
Volunteer sign-up: 7-9am Paul; 9-noon Karen; noon-2pm Suki; 2-4pm Marni, 4-6pm Patti, Luan & Brian
Mulvane Art Show, June 6 & 7,
Saturday, 11-4pm, Brian, Schmanke’s and Beasley’s available. Sunday, 11-5pm, Suki, Jeff and Beasley’s available. TBS tent setup for merchandise and membership. Artists: The 800’s, Rachelle Coba, Biscuit Miller & The Mix. Stage and merch tent will be near Parking Lot 16. Justin Shelton has offered to donate his time to teach a harmonica workshop for ages 10 and under. Suki will see of Stacy Neumann is interested in assisting. TBS will donate harmonicas for young students.

Membership is being printed and should be ready in a few days.
Summertime Blues – May 20
Youth will perform 20 minutes, intro for Guitar Giveaway should be 5 minutes. Band should begin by 7:30.
NEW BUSINESS
Blues Challenge residential requirement
Some discussion regarding residential requirement for our Blues Challenge. There are bands from other states that would like to be in our Challenge. After some discussion, Paul moved that the residential requirement be removed for the TBS Blues Challenge application, Bill second; approved unanimously. Karen will update application and post on website, Gerry will begin contacting bands.
Credit Card swipe
Some discussion about TBS getting a credit card swipe. Karen said she did not want to use her own phone for this purpose. She will research a pay-as-you-go phone, and a c.c. swipe.
Board member announcement
Paul announced he would not run for his Board position in August. The Board should begin searching for members to run for the Board.
