MEETING AGENDA
CALL TO ORDER at 6:33pm
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Suki Willison, Chardy Hern, Gerry Schmanke, Gib Ramirez, Rod Peterson, Brian Gabel, Jeff Martin, and Karen Osborn
BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Marni Schleuning, Paul Schwartz, and Bill Beasley
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Gerry moved that the minutes of November 10th be approved, Gib second; approved.
SECRETARY/TREASURER’S REPORT: Karen had handout of expenses and income for past month. No Income; Expenses: Blues Foundation IBC 1/2 page ad, Music on the Couch promotion fee, and USPS Post Box annual fee. Bank balance is $7,148.12 with an additional $50 in petty cash. Topeka Blues Society membership is at 72 listings – Karen said she has sent a final reminder to twenty-four unpaid listings, they will be removed from email listing on Dec. 31st if no payment by then. Gib moved that Secretary/Treasurer’s report be approved, Jeff second; approved.
OLD BUSINESS
IBC
Bios and photos: Chardy said all bios and photos were submitted on November 14th.
Advertising in IBC program: Karen reserved and has paid for a 1/2 page ad in the IBC program. Artwork deadline is Dec. 15th – Rod is working on ad and bookmarks. We did not request special placement for our ad.
Music on the Couch: Karen has paid Vinny. He still needs our artists to contact him – he will not list them on his website until he hears from them. Chardy said Patrick has contacted Vinny – she will contact BlueCat and let them know.
Kick-off party: Uncle Bo’s will have Kick-off party one or two nights, Jan. 16 and/or 17. Jam4Dan is same weekend – their blues show is on Sunday.
BLUES IN SCHOOLS
Rod mentioned prices have gone up on harmonicas. We’ll need them purchased by January, preferably around $5 each. He will check on different vendors.
TBS MEMBERSHIP BROCHURE
Karen will draw up a rough draft of the layout for our membership brochure. She said she contacted Angie at Southwest Publishing and Angie will print brochures. Suki asked that we make a “student membership” available at no cost. Board agreed this would be a good idea. Karen will add it to the brochure.
SOKBF: FUNDRAISING AND OTHER
Suki met with the Sertoma group, and is looking at the TBS being involved in the annual Duck Races. Karen will go to Prairie Band website and look for donation application. Suki is working on a band lineup. Jeff mentioned having a contact at BC/BS – Karen will check with Stacy before Jeff makes contact. Suki reminded us to tell any donors that we will hang their banner at the festival.
AMERICAN ROYAL BBQ COMPETITION
Mike Betts and his BBQ will be competing at the American Royal next October – Suki will get a two-piece band to entertain. More on this as the date gets closer.
NEW BUSINESS
Rod asked if Board is interested in TBS getting a grant writer who works for a percentage of any funds granted. Board agreed this would be a great way for us to go. He will look into this further.
Karen asked if Board would consider giving Angie at Southwest Publishing an Honorary Membership, to thank her for helping with all our printing needs. Board approved unanimously.
