OLD BUSINESS

 TBS Final Summertime Blues Concert

August 21 will be final concert series with That Damn Blues Band, and opening youth group Jackson & The Johnsons.  Table and tent will again be setup around 6pm for merchandise (shirts, hats, Blues fans) and membership applications and donation jar.  Since it’s getting dark by 8:30, we might need more stage lighting and we will need a big fan for stage.

Chardy mentioned that the parents of members of Jackson & The Johnsons will be at Summertime concert and would like information about the Youth Challenge at IBC.  Chardy and Brad offered to talk to them about their personal experiences and Chardy invited anyone else on the Board to join them Wednesday night.

TBS Blues Challenge

Winners are The Old No. 5s/Band and Dave Boswick/Solo.  Suki has visited with them and will have them play in as many festivals as possible and have them open for some of the acts at Bo’s.  Youth group Jackson and The Johnsons were impressive – may be interested in going to Memphis in January.  Karen mentioned that we took in $1841.17 from donations, Fans, door, merchandise, door raffle, silent auction and guitar raffle.  We also took in $480 in membership renewals.  $75 was paid to judges ($25 each) to help with gas expenses, and $60 paid for judges meals.  $100 paid to Jim Beilman for sound work.

Blues, Brews & BBQ, Sept. 6th & 7th

Tents will be set up for us to sell merchandise and memberships.  We will also assist with artists’ CD sales.  TBS will be involved Saturday only, and can close up tent around 10pm.  Artists will be rotating between downtown and Uncle Bo’s.  No cost to TBS for this event.

KBA Awards

Stacy is writing nomination for Uncle Bo’s for Blues Foundation’s Keeping the Blues Alive Best Venue award.

NEW BUSINESS

Blue Star Connection, August 31st

Stacy has been in contact with John Catt and he would like to have his Blue Star Connection event on August 31st.  Back Porch Blues Band will open from 7-8pm, and Samantha Fish will start at 8:30pm.  Suki would like to offer a free admission to anyone donating a quality new or like-new instrument.  Catt is sending a guitar for a raffle and Fish will autograph.  Stacy will write Press Release.  Catt has someone that will pick up any instruments donated.  He would like to have one or two children come to the event.  Karen will contact the American Cancer Society.  We need a photographer.

Jam4Dan

Joel Edison mentioned to Suki that Jam4Dan is interested in collaborating with TBS.  Suki will try to attend their next meeting and ask what we can do to assist.  Karen noted that last year’s Jam4Dan fundraiser was the week before IBC in Memphis.  This may cause some conflict with us helping in 2014.  Jam4Dan uses money raised to further music interests in schools.  They gave $500 to local schools to be used for overtime pay, teaching music to students.

Paxico Blues Festival, Sept. 21st

Gerry said TBS may have a tent set up at Paxico, but asked that we not sell t-shirts.  We may sell our fans, hats, and new TBS stickers.  He will set up our NEW tent and banner.  We will need Board members or TBS members to volunteer to work the tent.

Miscellaneous

All agreed that any new Blues collapsible fans should have the TBS website on them.

Karen reimbursed Suki for new TBS tent.

Bill will ask Randy Roach if we can have copies of photos he took of SOK Blues Festival.  We will also ask if he’d like to take photos at Blue Star Connection event.

Paul will talk to Lee Wright about TBS Board members and membership answering phones for one of their fundraisers, especially during October, November, December months, which is a slow time for TBS activities.  He will also mention the KBA awards being shown on TBS.

Suki announced Uncle Bo’s fall hours will be 7-11pm.

NEXT MEETING DATE:  6:30, Monday, Sept. 16, Uncle Bo’s

Paul moved that the meeting be adjourned, Gerry second; adjourned at 7:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted 08/22/2013
