OLD BUSINESS

SOKBF

Karen said several donations have come in, responding to the request letter she sent the first of March.  Several board members were not able to open the Corporation list Karen emailed, so she will make a copy and bring it to the next meeting (for possible donors).  SOKBF committee chairs will be discussed at April meeting.

Guitar Giveaway

Bill said the guitar Joel Edison is donating is being airbrushed, and should be ready by the first Summertime Blues concert in May.  As soon as it is ready, we will post a photo and donation forms on our website, $10 is the suggested donation.  Giveaway will be at the August Blues Challenge/Annual Membership meeting.

TBS Membership Brochure

Karen has submitted the membership brochure information to Rod.  Board requested brochure be ready by May Summertime Blues.

Topeka Gives 2015, June 2, 7am-6pm @ Fairlawn Plaza Mall

Paul asked Karen to check with Marsha Pope at Topeka Gives 2015 to verify that we have a table for this event.  A schedule will be decided at our April meeting.

Summertime Blues

Bill talked to Kyle at Speck’s about getting some youth groups for our Summertime concerts.  Back Porch Blues Band will play in May.

Blues Festival Guide

There was some discussion regarding the effectiveness of the advertising we place in the annual Blues Festival Guide.  The ad space costs $634.00.  Paul asked if our advertising dollars could be better spent on local publications.  Suki said it would cost much more to advertise locally, and suggested we stay with the Blues Festival Guide.  Karen will submit payment for the 2015 guide.

NEW BUSINESS

Blue Star Connection

On Monday, March 16th, at Uncle Bo’s, the KC Blues Society, in collaboration with the Topeka Blues Society, presented a drumset and two guitars to the Pina Brothers.  The instruments were donated to Blue Star Connection, which in turn donates instruments to children and families suffering severe illness.  The Pina brothers’ father, Richard Pina, was recently diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer.

Music Institute

Bill met with the owner of the Music Institute and they are going to have a Blues Summer Camp, and suggested TBS collaborate with them in some way.  Bill will follow up and report at a later meeting.
