Annual Membership Meeting / Election of Officers / Blues Challenge

The Annual Topeka Blues Society (TBS) Membership Meeting, Election of the Board, and Blues Challenge is Sunday, Aug. 19th at Uncle Bo’s, located on the lower level of the Ramada Inn Downtown in Topeka.  Doors open at noon, music (the Blues Challenge) begins at 1:00 p.m.  The TBS Membership meeting and Election of the Board will begin following the first two Blues Challenge acts, approx. 2:00 p.m.

During the Blues Challenge, there will be a Silent Auction, merchandise sold, new & slightly used blues CD’s for sale, AND $20 raffle tickets will continue to be sold for “Penny Sue”, a unique guitar creation by Joel Edison.  (Raffle drawing will be held during the IBC Kick-Off party, in January 2018 at Uncle Bo’s.)  You can learn more about the raffle and buy tickets here.  https://www.topekabluessociety.org/wp/penny-sue-guitar-raffle/

Regarding Election of the Board: If you are interested in helping keep the blues alive, you can help by serving on the TBS Board (keeping in mind that this is a WORKING Board)!  Terms are two years.  Please respond to this email if you’d like to be on the ballot.  Elections will be during the Membership Meeting.

Mark your calendars, and plan on joining us on August 19th for lots of fun, great music and blues fellowship!

What is the IBC?  The 2019 International Blues Challenge (IBC) will be the 35th year of Blues musicians from around the world competing for cash, prizes, and industry recognition. The Blues Foundation will present the 35th Annual IBC January 22nd through 26th, 2019 in Memphis, TN. The world’s largest gathering of Blues acts represents an international search by The Blues Foundation and its Affiliated Organizations for the Blues Band and Solo/Duo Blues Act ready to take their act to the international stage.  Hundreds of bands and solo/duo acts fill the clubs up and down Beale Street for the quarter-finals on Wednesday and Thursday, the semi-finals on Friday and the finals at the Orpheum Theater on Saturday. The 35th year of the International Blues Challenge will once again include a youth showcase for those under the age of 21, with an afternoon of talented young people showcasing their talents for record labels, media, festivals, managers, talent buyers and the fans.
